Psychological Testing Services

Psychological testing allows a psychologist to compare a child’s performance and behaviors with other children their same age. Our highly trained psychologist performs a variety of assessments.

Medical Services

We have experienced nurses at each location. Our nurses work closely with your Primary Care Physician to provide the best possible care for each child that we serve.

Nutrition Services

The dietary staff and nurses work closely with the dietitian to ensure all dietary recommendations and special diets are carried out daily.

Medical Services

The Medical Directors complete medical assessments for each patient at least every six months and oversee each patient’s treatment plan. Our nurses work closely with our Medical Directors to provide the best possible care for each child that we serve.

Nutrition Services

The dietary staff and nurses work closely with the child’s care givers and primary care physician to ensure all dietary recommendations and special diets are carried out daily. KULA participates in the USDA program.

Special Programs

SCERTS
The SCERTS Model (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support) was developed out of 25 years of research and clinical/educational practice by Dr. Barry Prizant, Dr. Amy Wetherby, Ms. Emily Rubin and Ms. Amy Laurent, a multi-disciplinary team of professionals trained in Communication Disorders, Special Education, Occupational Therapy and Developmental and Behavioral Psychology.

Sensory Integration
We experience the world through our senses. While we generally teach children about five senses (taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing), there are actually additional senses that are very important to the way we function in the world. Some senses tell us the position of our bodies and others help us keep our balance and remain upright against the pull of gravity. The sensory systems are the gateways of information to and from the brain and body.

The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is a very popular training tool that provides individuals with an effective and functional method of communication by incorporating pictures within the therapy process.

Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) is a therapeutic approach based on neurological and motor learning principles. The goal is to give individuals who are nonverbal or have limited verbal abilities, a method of independently and spontaneously expressing themselves in any setting.

The Strategies for Teaching based on Autism Research (STAR) Program uses detailed lesson plans, teaching materials, data systems and a curriculum-based assessment for teaching in the six curricular areas of receptive language, expressive language, spontaneous language, functional routines, academic and play and social skills.
